Born Idol, a division of Spin Gurus DJ & Remixing Academy entered the music scene with a one track mind and unwavering focus to make people aware of “The Power of Music” |
After conducting many studies on the effects of music to the brain, we are concluded that children who are exposed to music or those who play an instrument do better in school than those who don't. Exposure to music always benefits a child's reading age, IQ and the development of certain parts of the brain. Adults can benefit from learning to play an instrument too because it helps the mind to be alert and active eventually helping to sharpen the memory. |

Why music is important for a child? |
Research done at the University of California-Irvine indicates that young children taking music lessons have a greater ability to grasp concepts that are also essential to math and science. It also helps children to think in terms of patterns and pictures and to consider a problem on a different level. Most importantly they will have a skill which they can share with other musicians of all ages, and that will last them for the rest of their life, for like riding a bicycle you never forget how to play an instrument. |
Coordination and concentration are also improved when, for instance, children take piano lessons and learn to play a different line of music with each hand. Mastering a song or technique allows children to feel a sense of accomplishment and a desire to move on to the next challenge. These feelings of pride can also improve their confidence in the classroom. |

Does music make a child smarter? |
Yes, of course it does. When learning a musical instrument or a song, your child experiences the unique integration of body and mind that music provides. Sensory integration is a crucial factor in children's learning readiness for school subjects such as reading, writing, and math. |
Music improves spatial-temporal reasoning (ability to visualize spatial patterns and mentally manipulate them over a time-ordered sequence of spatial transformations), a neurological process needed to understand mathematics. |
Albert Einstein is recognized as one of the smartest men who has ever lived. A little known fact about Einstein is that when he was young he did extremely poor in school. His grade school teachers told his parents to take him out of school because he was "too stupid to learn" and it would be a waste of resources for the school to invest time and energy in his education. The school suggested that his parents get Albert an easy, manual labor job as soon as they could. His mother did not think that Albert was "stupid". Instead of following the school's advice, Albert's parents bought him a violin. Albert became good at the violin. Music was the key that helped Albert Einstein become one of the smartest men who has ever lived. Einstein himself says that the reason he was so smart is because he played the violin. He loved the music of Mozart and Bach the most. |
While your child may never become a violin maestro, the time he spends practicing an instrument or singing in a choir will contribute to his aptitudes for problem solving, creativity, memory, coordination, and much more. And it's great fun! |

How to choose a musical instrument for your child? |
Learning to play a musical instrument is one of the greatest gifts you can give your children. For a child to enjoy and want to continue playing a musical instrument they must choose one that suits them, and makes a sound that they enjoy making. |
Here are some tips to guide you on your decision: |
| Cost |
Think about how much you can spend on an instrument, what is the cost, can you afford to buy or rent it? Look at your budget and see exactly how much you can devote to purchasing and learning how to play an instrument. |
| Weight of the Instrument |
Always keep in mind the weight and length of the instrument. Obviously, kids have shorter arms and fingers than adults and they aren't capable of lifting a lot of weight. This is important especially when your child has to carry his instrument when he goes to his lessons or practice. |
| Tuition |
If you are thinking of enrolling your child in music lessons, group lessons are less expensive than private lessons plus it will be more fun for them to learn in a group especially if their friends are there as well. |
| Interest |
The most important factor to consider when thinking of what instrument to study is your child’s interest. Analyze your child’s interest and, if possible, try out different types of instruments. Finally, pick the one you feel is the right instrument for your child. |
You can also talk to our experienced music teachers at Born Idol about which instruments may be easier to learn, given your child's age and experiences. |

Music tips for parents |
Introduce infants to music by singing them lullabies and nursery rhymes. |
Continue to encourage a love for music by listening to songs your children learn from TV shows, musical tapes, and songs they make up. |
Look into a wide variety of musical toys and cassettes of songs that are available for children. |
If you've always wanted to learn to play the piano yourself, take some lessons! Show your child that it takes time and practice to master a new skill. Just make sure not to turn this into a competition. |
Encourage your child by asking her to play for you. |
Compliment his efforts and progress, but keep in mind that few musicians become stars overnight. |
Try to provide a quiet place and a regular time for practice. |
Never use music practice as punishment! |
